Corn on Ear

2025-06-12

Today is "Corn on Ear", one of the 24 solar terms. Corn on Ear is the third solar term in summer. This season has entered midsummer, with significantly higher temperatures, abundant rainfall, high humidity and hot weather. It is advisable to open windows more often to ventilate and breathe in fresh air to avoid being too greedy for cool air and causing summer cold.

Dishes made with seasonal vegetables include:

Stir-fried pork slices with garlic green beans

Okra salad

Steamed luffa  with garlic sauce

June seasonal crop harvest table

Beans

Green beans, white beans, French beans

Stem vegetables

Beetroot, carrots

Leafy vegetables

Cauliflower, Shanghai cabbage, Chinese cabbage, chayote, Italian lettuce, eggplant, mustard greens, okra, amaranth and water spinach

Melons

Cucumber, bitter melon, gourd, wax gourd, luffa

Herbs

Chives, lemon balm, lemongrass, mint, parsley, chilli pepper, and basil

As "seasonal" vegetables change, the advantage of choosing seasonal vegetables is that they are planted and harvested at the most appropriate time, require less pesticides, and taste better; and because they are "in season", the yield is higher and the price is lower.
